The Department of the Interior manages all public lands and natural resources. The division also claims to protect Indigenous people while actively covering up the scope and true history of its atrocities toward them.
In August 2025, the Record Resistance team independently discovered webpage removals from the Department of Interior website as recently as May 22, 2025. We have also recovered and republished all 12 reports produced by the Federal "Indian"* Boarding School Initiative. Established in 2021 and completed in 2023, this project compiled oral and written histories of Indigenous people who endured trauma and racial harm in federal boarding schools.
*We prefer the term Indigenous to "Indian", but have chosen to retain the original name of the department to ensure our reports come up in search.
The Department of the Interior is a high-priority target for the Record Resistance archive.
Known alterations
"Our Priorities" directory
The entire /priorities/ section of the department's website has been removed. When you try to visit any pages that were previously published under this category, you get a 403 error. This means the files likely still exist on the backend — they've just been unpublished from public view.
Timeline:
- January 20, 2025, 4:00 AM: The directory was still live.
- January 20, 2025, 5:40 PM: The page registers as a 403 (forbidden) error.
Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance, Environmental Justice Resources page
On January 21, 2025, just one day after the inauguration for POTUS 45, the Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance's list of environmental justice resources went offline. The main OEPC page is still live as of September 2025. The Record Resistance team is currently archiving materials published on these pages.
